Two halfs don't always make a whole

Imagine next scenario, where is two people who once were in love, but not anymore.

I know these people, who? you ask me. Well I'm not comfortable enough to tell you who they are, but I'm not one of them, that's for sure.

These two fell in love and stayed together in wrong reasons. They have made unfortunate plans, that weren't really fine for both of them. One made the decisions and the other one just went with it.
And now after 20 years they have reached the point when they are together, but not with each other. They live under same roof like roommates, sleep in the same bed with too much space between. I have heard one of them tell me that there just isn't any warm feeling anymore. Mostly just irritation to everything that the other one says or does. I don't know how the other one feels and I'm scared to ask.

I hate hearing about all the bad feelings and see them both suffer.
It's just not my problem to solve, I just have to stand there and wait them to actually do something about that. I can't lie that they haven't tried, it just has always ended the same way: nothing changes.

They keep on living this empty loveless life.
I hope they change the way they are living now and I hope that none of us has to suffer the same way.
